Chairman Kenneth Lay messaged employees through email announcing the company had â€Å"never been Stronger†. Just a week after, he promised a significantly higher stock price†. (Bill, Press). What makes the scandal so inexcusable? Is that Mr. Lay was tricking his employees to purchase share in the company and hold on to them? While Lay did differently. Unethical companies will eventually get exposed: Most of the top executives were tried for fraud after it was revealed in November 2001 that Enron s earnings had been overstated by several hundred million dollars. Overall, 16 previous Enron executives including Skilling had been sentenced to prison. Its previous chairman, Ken Lay, was also convicted but because he passed away before his guilty verdict could be appealed, that case was thrown out. Sherron

Fast Fashion - More Than Just Money - 2158 Words

Fast Fashion - More Than Just Money Fast fashion is a term used for the mindset of consumers that fashion is something that we need to buy over and over again, very often, for very cheap. Fast fashion may seem like a good thing to the average consumer, but there are many consequences to it that people don’t know about. Ninety-five percent of fashion sold in America is made in factories overseas, where there are no labor laws in place. The garment workers in the factories are only paid an average of $2 a day. The owners of the factories cut corners on safety, leading to fires and other disasters, resulting in the loss of life. There are also no environmental laws, so the rivers and lakes that people depend on for clean water have become polluted by the chemicals used in leather factories, shoe making, and dyeing fabric. The negative effects of fast fashion vastly outweigh the positive effects of it. Garment workers in places such as Bangladesh, China, and other third world countries with no labor laws, face a har d and dangerous life. Since they live in so much poverty, garment workers are forced to take jobs in factories for low wages in unsafe conditions. Very often, parents will have to send their children away, because they have no way to take care of them, nor do they want to bring them into the factories because of the toxic fumes and unsafe conditions. Parents will be able to see their kids once or twice a year if they are lucky. Marketing and Management New Generation Churches Case Study

Question: Discuss about theMarketing and ManagementforNew Generation Churches Case Study. Answer: Reason for Declining Church Attendance in Australia. Religion diversity; migrants from Southeast Asia and the Middle East have led to the increase of Islamic, Buddhism and other religions into Australia. The growth of non-Christian religions in Australia has increased the diversity in Christianity. Sydney which is the largest city in Australia is the home of the most non-Christian population in Australia. Buddhists, for instance, has the largest population (357,813), followed by Muslims (281,578) and Hindus (95,473), (Inglis, 2002). The number of people reporting to no religion has increased in Australia. This can be attributed to the change of beliefs and values by people ((Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2014). Australians tend to leave traditional religion and move to the new religious movements which offer different beliefs and practices such as horoscopes and astrology. This has caused religious diversity in Australia leading to declining number of people attending church. Market Segmentation to be used by Churches in Australia. Cultural segmentation: This type of segmentation classifies people according to culture, beliefs and values. The new generation church in Australia can apply this segmentation to be able to cater for people with different cultural origins, values and beliefs. From the case study, Christians in Australia are moving from traditional religion to new age religions. This indicates that the population in Australia has people with different values, beliefs and cultures. By using this segmentation, the new generation church will be able to cater for all customers with different cultures. Different churches can be started that deal with different cultures, beliefs, and values (Thomas, 2016). Psychographic segmentation: This type of market segmentation considers customer lifestyle, interests, and opinions. The new generation church can use this segmentation to get more people to attend to the church. This segmentation will consider the voice of the people, their interest and way of life. This segment will target the young people who like being listened to and have many interests that they love doing on their free time (Thomas, 2016). How the Church can Attract more Members. Offer consistent and superior member service: The new generation church should be consistent and always ready to help its members. It should put its members first and provide services to them when they need it to make them stay and not leave the church (Horn, 2014). Develop strong lead generation: This means that the church should position itself as the expert that knows all the problems of its members and has solutions to them. This will build a strong relationship between the church and the members. This will reduce the rate of declining attendance(Horn, 2014). Do follow-ups: Members of any church will feel appreciated and loved if the church they associate themselves with follow up on them. Follow ups can be done at churches or homes of the members. This creates a bond between the church and the members. External Environmental Factors that have an Impact on Christian Religion Sector. Technological changes: In the church today, technology has a lot of meaning. Most things are being done using technology, such as preaching, announcements and also communication. The new generation church in Australia should consider technology changes in the Christian sector and keep up to date with it for future growth(My Marketing Notebook, 2012) Demographic changes: changes in age, sex and population size of a country affect the Christian sector. The new generation church should have good knowledge of these changes to be well prepared. Social and cultural forces: The trend of culture changes, behavior, and change in lifestyle will affect the church. The church should be well aware of these changes to be able to deal with them accordingly for future growth(My Marketing Notebook, 2012). Comparison of Different Churches. The positioning of Hillsong church is better, and thus it has been able to attract huge attendance of the worshippers. Hillsong can easily attract potential members to the church. This is because of its strategy of targeting the rich class in the society. When compared with other churches such as paradise church it comes out that they are not well positioned in the market. Similarly, St. Mary's Church is an Anglican church and is more tradition, unlike the Hillsong and paradise churches. Therefore, Hillsong has positioned itself better than the other churches. Panel Finds CIA Illegality but Backs Record CIA Infiltrated 17 Area Groups, Gave Out LSD Report on CIA in Brief Ford Insists Any Oil Price Rise Should Be Limited to 7% to 8% New York Times: A daily newspaper, which targeted more liberal readers. CIA Panel Finds Plainly Unlawful Acts that Improperly Invaded American Rights Unknown people drug-test subjects Panel wants agency to watch over CIA We once again hear problems with governmental agency overly using their power and taking away rights of citizens unjustly. With these problems comes societies weary eye over the government, should society trust them or fear them. With internal problems also come international problems. Oil runs the world and the United States cant have small oil producing countries have to much power over them. However if these countries wanted they could slow the world down and create huge problems. This is what happened in the nineteen seventies, when a few of the OPEC countries decided that they wanted more money. This caused many problems in the United States and other countries; here in the US the auto industry had to change their thinking on car and engine size. With the CIA committing illegal acts against the public and OPEC raising the price for oil, the United States had many problems to face at this time. The government caused these to happen, they allowed the CIA to go on unchecked in thei r performance and activities. If the US had from the beginning given the OPEC nations the right of money they deserved the price of oil might not have shot up so severely. The US could have prevented this situation if they had done this. The Rockefeller Papers were simply a report headed by Nelson A. Rockefeller to be done on the activities of the CIA. The president had ordered a special commission to review the CIA, at the time no one had any idea how unchecked the CIA had gone on with their administration. When the report was finished the media and the public were shocked at the numerous occasions when the CIA ignored the peoples civil rights. This report brought about charges to the CIA with crimes of Plainly Unlawful acts. The report charges the CIA with using humans as guinea pigs for LSD along with numerous other crimes (Democrat and Chronicle). An example of this testing is when a civilian of the department of the Army was given LSD in a meeting with out his knowledge. He was told about the LSD 20 minutes later when he started having severe side affects. He goes on to New York for psychiatric help where he jumps from a 10-story building to his death (Washington Post). When the public herd about these accusatio ns they became more suspicious of the government; the public still had vivid memories of Water Gate and the hatred or dislike for Nixon and his administration. The people were tired of the government and their continuous lies over small guerilla warfare with South East Asia. This Report was fundamental in the some of the final large operations of the CIA. The exact crimes of the CIA are numerous; many of them have to do with the gathering of

Types of Paartnership

Types of Paartnership Partnership is a type of business organization in which two or more individual's pool money, skills, and other resources, and share profit and loss in accordance with the terms of the partnership agreement. In absence of such agreement, a partnership is assumed to exist where the participants in an enterprise agree to share the associated risks and rewards proportionately. There are two main types of partnership the general partnership, the limited partnership, limited liability corp. (LLC) and the limited liability partnership (LLP).In a general partnership the partners are responsible for managing the company. They also assume the responsibility for the partnership's debt and other obligations. For example, if a partnership is delinquent on a payment to a creditor, the partners' personal assets are likely going to be liquidated to make payments to the creditor. Of the several blind spots in the early development of the human Essay

Of the several blind spots in the early development of the human rights regime, none is as striking as the failure to give viol - Essay Example The fact that the women have been presented as helpless and individuals who are dependent on others for support has not made the position of women in society better. As such, only several centuries past now have women been able to enjoy equal rights as men. In most countries, these women are now able to go to school alongside their male counterparts, to go to work, to support themselves, and to vote. For a long while however, women have been subjected to physical, emotional, sexual, and mental abuse from their male counterparts, including family members as well as strangers. In the past few decades however, more serious commitments on the protection of their civil and human rights have been observed1. These commitments come in the form of laws in the international and national level, ultimately affording equal right to these women and imposing punishment and penalties to those who abuse the rights of women. One of these laws is the CEDAW or the Convention on the Elimination of All Fo rms of Discrimination against Women. It is also known as the Treaty for the Rights of Women2. It was adopted by the UN in 1979, and ratified by different countries. This treaty is however not a sufficient policy in the complete protection of women’s civil and human rights. ... This article shall evaluate the statement above, highlighting instances of human rights violations for these women, gaps in the protection of their rights, including possible remedies which can be implemented in order to address the issue. Body The CEDAW is considered an encompassing international treaty covering the basic rights of women. It indicates a form of Bill of Rights for these women and is the only international instrument which completely covers specific provisions on women’s rights, including their political, economic, social, cultural, and civil life4. There are 185 ratifying countries for this treaty, with the US being a major hold out for its ratification5. The CEDAW indicates a very broad definition for discrimination against women, supporting the fact that international usually provides broad definitions when compared to local or national laws. Nevertheless, CEDAW defines the idea of equality for women beyond what is currently set by many national provisions. Under the CEDAW, discrimination against women also refers to any act which excludes, distinguishes, or restricts individuals based on sex with such discrimination often made in order to impair the enjoyment or exercise by women of their human and fundamental freedoms and rights6. The treaty secures women’s rights in different realms, including government and political life, employment, education, healthcare, as well as other elements of social and economic life. It also indicates special policies for women including special measures to support the causes of women and protect their maternity7. Aside from the CEDAW, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights has also set forth provisions seeking to protect

How do You Think a Confucian, a Daoist, and a Legalist would Evaluate Essay

How do You Think a Confucian, a Daoist, and a Legalist would Evaluate Asoka as a Ruler - Essay Example Asoka was inclined to fundamental values such as love, tolerance and was a devotee of nonviolence (Andrea and Overfield 143). Asoka was a peace-loving ruler who tried to instill a secular state ethic of non-violence. This clearly matches the arguments of the Confucius that claims that persons in a position of superiority were supposed to set an admirable example of moral behavior. This is what Asoka did (Andrea and Overfield 90). According to the Confucian doctrines, the politics are highly valued. They believe that politics is closely related to eternal life. The doctrines back up social issues that are indispensable as far as the livelihood of people is concerned. Because of this, aspects such as domestic order, preserve tradition, constant standard of living for the taxpaying peasants are highly valued. The Confucian theory is anchored on the belief that a ruler who cannot exemplify moral behavior is bound to loss the Mandate of Heaven. The Confucian doctrines aim at nurturing val ues such as compassion, traditional rituals, allegiance, and respect for superiors (Andrea and Overfield 92). The Confucius tends to value the family and community than the individual. This means that for one to be recognized by the Confucian, he or she must be able to assist the community. Egocentric is highly disregarded. From the religious perspective, Confucians worship the ancestors. They are still inclined to the traditional beliefs. Asoka argues that the relationship with the parents and living creatures should be firmly established. Ideally, the ruler should himself be such a model. For this, Asoka may be seen as an able ruler whose style of leadership style largely intertwines with the doctrine of Confucius (Andrea and Overfield 143). Legalism is anchored on the fact that people, by nature are evil, selfish, and untrustworthy. This philosophy aims at addressing the features of the people. It has one limitation in that it does not address the meaning of life. According to th e philosophy, law is the main tool through which people can be made to live in harmony. Because of this, the philosophy claims that the law code should be clearly availed to the public. Public must have access to the law code so that they can do according to the law. Failure to do meet these conditions may tempt people to commit crimes. The philosophy believes that the law makes people equal before the stipulated law codes (Andrea and Overfield 96). Nevertheless, the law states that those who break the law should be punished. Therefore, it is necessary to appreciate the fact that the measures that were taken provided some assurance of predictability. Similarly, the ruler has no significant impact or influence on the rule of law as it is predominantly run by the state and not him. Asoka became a successful ruler after a successful execution of military conquests. He waged war at Kalinga. This brings him out as a forceful ruler (Andrea and Overfield 143). A legalist would rate Asoka a n inferior leader. Legalism stated that ruler should be in a position to employ some leadership tactics. This would ensure that he or she is under control of others. It also ensures that no one may claim the control over the state. They claim that this is possible because no one could possibly predict the motivations of the ruler like Asoka. Consequently, it is even hard to understand the appropriate behavior for the successful execution and following of laws (Andrea and Over
